Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea)

Sapri's the bartender. A visit to his place means compulsory beverage tasting. This recipe is dedicated to my old friend Sapri (who taught me to make it ). From my old friend for you...

Teh Tarik is Malaysian’s favourite drink for breakfast. Teh Tarik was recognized by the government as an important part of Malaysia's food heritage. The name Teh Tarik, is in fact a Malaysian word.

Teh Tarik means “Pulled Tea”. Teh Tarik is actually an Indian method of making milk tea which can be commonly found in restaurants, outdoor stalls and kopitiams (Malaysian coffee shops) in southeastern Asian countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

Ingredients:
          500 ml boiled water
          3 tea bags
          2 tablespoons white sugar
          2 tablespoons condensed milk

Step 1. Put 3 tea bags (Malaysian branded tea bag or you can replace these with normal English tea bags) into a large glass or cup. Add hot water and leave the tea to mix for about five minutes so it becomes quite strong.
Step 2. Add sugar and milk. Stir well.
Step 3. Take out the tea bags, using two jugs, pour back and forth about five or six times between the two jugs until you have achieved the desired foamy texture. Pull it from as high as you can.
Step 4. Serve it in large glass mug. Either serve hot or add in ice.
